Aren't the French lucky! More Brits go to France for their winter holiday than anywhere else. Big mountains, well established resorts, gastronomic delights and quick access from the UK make France an obvious choice.

France has a mix of traditional and modern resorts, some will say that many of the modern ones look ugly but if you're here for the snow then this can be easily overlooked. With some of the highest resorts in europe the snow quality is good and with the most extensive lift networks in the world you can be sure you won't get bored.

Accommodation ranges from compact apartments to luxury hotels and catered chalets. This means there is no shortage of choice whatever your budget. Although serviced by many low-cost airlines the French Alps also has the added benefit of being linked by direct rail services from London. It is also a favourite destination for people who like to load up the car and make the journey at their own pace and leisure.

Apres-ski varies greatly from place to place, but in all resorts you can sample good quality local cuisine. In the larger resorts you can expect live bands and late night bars and nightclubs. All in all French resorts offer great snow coverage, endless pistes, fantastic cheese and a chance to improve your schoolboy French!
