Avoriaz
Avoriaz lies, perched above dramatic cliffs, at the heart of
the Portes du Soleil, poised to explore it's 650km of piste. Just
over an hour and a half from Geneva, close to the UK by car, snow-sure
and ski-in/ski-out convenience, all makes Avoriaz a very popular
resort with a lot of people.
It is also the self-proclaimed capital of snowboarding, and justifiably
so. The resort has embraced the sport like no other since it's
inception. However, Avoriaz existed well before snowboarding came
about, a product, once again of the 1960's/1970's school of architecture.
At least this time, they decided that all buildings would be clad
in wood, which makes for some interesting viewing, and not altogether
unpleasant, depending on your outlook.
